VintaCon 2.5: Progress Report 3.14
In the Scientifically Fertile Livermore Valley
October 14-16, 2005
Livermore Courtyard Marriott

VintaCon is almost here! This year we’re having a scaled back convention close to our home. Most of us have been hither and yon and we would like to relax, stay close to home and see what the local winemakers at the “nuclear level” in Livermore have in store for us.

Activities will start Friday evening, around 7:30ish PM with a dinner outing for those who have already checked in. Meet in Hospitality hosted by Kevin and Andy, or in Dave and Spring’s room, for a quick Belgian beer sampling, then off to dinner! After supper, a return to Hospitality for the partaking of the Deadly Zins…bring your deadliest Zin for the evening inquisition.

On Saturday we will begin our winery expedition with a visit to some top picks from our Evil Genius hosts for this year, Kevin Roche and Andy Trembley. We’ll let you know the time of departure. We plan a full day with five wineries with a lunch stop. We have the option of picnicking at one of the sites, or stop for lunch along the way. We want your input, so please don’t hesitate to contact either Kevin or myself for your ideas on lunch. We will return to the hotel after a fully loaded, or is that loaded fully(?) day and have a rest break before dinner.

Plans for dinner are tentatively planned at the Pleasanton Hotel. There may be a wine maker’s dinner for that evening. We will inform you of all the details such as cost, and what type of menu, as soon as the information becomes available to us.

After dinner, those still upright enough will make their way to Hospitality for a non traditional “Sweets”. This year we have a theme: “Any Port in a Storm”. You may bring a port, any other fortified, or botrytis type dessert wine to indulge your palate in. A special selection of true Belgian and Scharffen-Berger chocolates will be the accompaniment to our evening.

Please bring games along! Dave and Spring will have their super deluxe version of Apples to Apples!

On Sunday, for those who do not have to “get outta Dodge” soon, we plan on packing up, checking out, and exploring more wineries that Livermore has to offer.

Perhaps we’ll engage in some silliness such as getting “lost” in the Livermore Corn Maize owned by G & M farms. Or, if you don’t want your allergies to go crazy, we can go for a round of miniature golf (or as I like to refer to it “tipsy golf”) at the nearby course.

We hope that you’ll be able to join us for some fun and frolic!
Spring and Dave, Co-Chairs
Kevin and Andy, Co-hosts
