Eurovision Song Contest 2012 entry 1-4

Our fourth entry is Anmary's Beautify Song for Latvia.

So Anmary Sue is singing this song that mixes her life story (she was born the year Johnny Logan won Eurovision for Ireland, and her mother said she should be a singer) and wish fulfillment (about how this song is going to be all over the radio and tv and everybody is going to be humming and singing it).

And then there's the video. If it wasn't obvious what the song is about, you get a biopic of Anmary going to the record studio, recording her song, being interviewed on the radio when they play her song, getting promotional stills shot, shooting a music video, going to the airport to fly to Baku...

...and wandering into a Latvian version of a Bollywood musical where all the people in the airport fall in dancing behind her as she makes her way to the plane.

I am not convinced that this is so bad it's good. I really am not.

She sounds exactly like the lead singer from Blackmore's Night, and the setup of the video reminds me of Phil Collins doing the music video for I Wish it Would Rain Down. (He's the drummer who gets pulled up to sing lead for a song and as he's singing it, visions of musical fame go through his mind in a way that's remeniscent of this...but at the end, he's just back at being a drummer once more.)

I need to follow Eurovision more. My first exposure to it was actually from a webcomic.
