Collecting anecdotes

I could do this as a LJ survey, but I would rather have answers in the comments for reasons that will be clear in a moment.
  1. Do you nominate or vote for the Hugo Awards? If your answer is no, thank you for participating, you don't need to comment.
  2. Do you listen to fan podcasts or watch fan video periodicals? If your answer is no, thank you for participating, you don't need to comment.
  3. How many fan podcasts do you follow?
  4. Are they centered around a single topic or multiple fannish topics?
  5. How many fan podcasts do you follow that are good enough you would nominate them in the Hugo Awards if there was an appropriate category?
  6. Are you a podcaster?

I am not certain if some podcasts I listen to are "fan podcasts."

Well, if you're not sure, go ahead and list/link them by name under #3 rather than just giving a count. Or just ask yourself:
  1. Is this a non-professional market?
  2. Is this a non-commercial production?
  3. Is it related to science fiction and fantasy?
If you can answer "yes" to all 3, count it. If you're not certain, say you're not certain.

1 so rarely that I count as a no.

3. 2-3, but irregularly
4. multiple
5. 1
6. don't we all wanna be. But no.

I would definitely pay more attention to what's happening in them if there were a category. In fact, all this discussion is making me want to go look for more 'cause there's obviously some good stuff out there I'm missing.

I nominate and vote for Hugos in those categories in which I have some actual knowledge. I listen to fan podcasts on those rare occasions when they are pointed out to me on LJ or FB or twitter, and look like they may be interesting. I don't routinely follow any.

The ones I am attracted to tend to not focus on a single fandom or topic, but I'll make an exception for Doctor Who, Firefly and Star Wars themed ones.

I have not seen/heard enough of any one series to make a judgement for #5, except to say I have seen/heard a small number which contained content and production values worthy of a Hugo, if the series was up to that standard.

I am not a podcaster, but my profession has been streaming media for the past 25 years, I have all the tools, and there is always the threat I will actually start doing one.

yes, no, stop. But generally, I don't watch video shorts or listen to podcasts.

2-Yes, all are audio though, I currently don't follow any video ones;
3-4-This is more tricky, so I'll just list.

Escape Artists Podcasts(Podcastle/Pseudopod/Escape Pod)
Beware the Hairy Mango
Starship Sofa/The Sofanauts

The Escape Artists might be pro, likewise the Drabblecast, they're all fiction podcasts although there's sometimes intro/outro fannishness. The Mango is a fiction single-author podcast. Clarkesworld is a semiprozine so I guess their podcast is a semiprocast? In any case, I would love to see a category in which these would be eligible. SSS is SSS, while the Sofanauts is multi-topic with news and interviews.

Spider On The Web, this is another author podcast but the content is fannish.

Podshock, Radio Free Skaro, Two Minute Time Lord, The Oodcast, Mutter's Spiral, Bridging the Rift; All fancasts, all Doctor Who.

Steam Geeks, SteamPod and Clockwork Cabaret; Fannish the lot, I think? The first covers multiple topics, the second is mainly fiction, the third is music.

The Space Dog Podcast; multiple topics.

I also listen to the Nerdist, which falls in kind of a Randal Munroe territory in that there is a lot of nerdy and fannish content but feels like a pro-cast.

5-I have already nominated two or three previously. There are probably three or four others that I would add to that list.

6-Only sort of, a few months ago my roommate started a podcast in which he records us snarking at Doctor Who episodes during breakfast, but its really his thing :)

1) Nominate -- when eligible and feeling informed enough. Vote -- when eligible; I make an effort to be informed.
2) Mostly fiction podcasts, rather than discussion / interview. No video podcasts.
3) I'd say 4 that are clearly fan, plus several that are borderline / might be pro.
4) All are centered on the stories, at least for me.
5) 1 or 2, but they're fairly different from each other. (One is ongoing stories in a single world; the other is anthology-like.)
6) No.
