The weekend in review...

So kproche and I went up to SF for their annual coronation ball. We haven't been attending that many imperial court events (because they returns from Costume-Con promotion at them didn't seem to be good, and weren't in the end), so it's been a while since we've seen some of these people. I don't feel like writing up a big review, suffice it to say it was fun, we didn't over-do things, and I'm still exhausted.

On the way home on Sunday, we stopped at the tail-end of Potlatch to visit with folks, and ended up staying for about 4 hours. It was a blast.

I'm processing pics and they will be up on flickr in a few days.

What is Potlatch?

Itty-bitty sercon SF convention. Has a "Book of Honor" rather than a Guest of Honor (although this year the BoH's author, Ursula K. LeGuin, decided to come to the con, although that wasn't announced until a few days before the con). Usually draws less than 100 people, but pulled almost 250 this year.

Actually it's been averaging around 180 people for many years, so this year was a great turnout, but not bigger than the con could handle. Ursula has been to some previous Potlatches. There was one where we all watched Lathe of Heaven together, and another where she was presented with her Nebula Grand Master award, with all of us wearing masks with her face on it. This year we put her name on the membership list, but we didn't want to make a big deal of her attending. I think that having Always Coming Home as a Book of Honor (along with Growing up Weightless by Mike Ford) also helped pulled people in -- we need to give some credit to what Ursula wrote, not just to her as a person (although she is quite a wonderful person indeed).
