Stupid question, I know...

Does anybody have a working LightScribe DVD or CD burner? As in one you've successfully burned LightScribe labels with?

I've got a HP dvd740e (external USB) drive, but I've got this problem; it never recognizes LightScribe media, and I've got a project where burning LightScribe labels would be really cool.

Supposedly the new laptop here at Casa Cthulhu has light scribe but we've never actually tried it out to see if it works. I can go buy a couple of disks and give it a go, if you like - but I acknowledge that Casa Cthulhu is hardly local...

It's been out for a at least 2-3 years, so I presume all those lightscribe media are using used somewhere. I do have a CD/DVD printer, as you may know. Better than lightscribe :-)

Much better than LightScribe, but not for what I want...

I do, but I've only used it once. It was pretty cool, IMHO. Phoenix isn't really local, though, and even though I was supposed to go, I can't make it to CC now :(

I have one in my computer but I've never tried it to see if it works.

Allegedly my two DVD drives are Lightscribe, but since I use printable media I haven't tried using that feature (Lightscribe media costs more).

I would normally stay away from LightScribe, but we've got an idea for using LightScribe-labeled discs to make some CC26 award plaques.

Well, I picked up some lightscribe CDs at Fry's, will give them a try tonight or tomorrow.

What software do you have?

I've got Roxio Creator 9 DE (with a wimpy labeling package) and Nero 6 (with a powerful but old labeling package).

I'll try the software which came with the drives (Samsung strange but true). Have Roxio 10 and Nero 7, if need be.

Success - I had to load Samsung's lightscribe app off their site (it installs the LS drivers) and then used SureThing CD Labeler trial version to write.
Disc goes face-down (scribe side to the laser)
It takes about 20 minutes to burn the label
Label is very light, not readable from more than a couple of feet away.
Not sure if it will work for a plaque.

Cool. Mine is epic fail; just plugged the drive into a brand-new clean machine (4 weeks old), new install of Roxio, new install of HP LightScribe drivers, and it doesn't even know it's got a lightscribable disk in the drive when I run diagnostics. I'll let K know.

I also have lightscribe - only used it once (a couple of weeks ago) and it worked fine.
