Honestly, I didn't fix it...

...or at least nothing I did should have fixed it.

However, after a weekend of having a flaky windows machine in the studio, it looks like something I did resulted in it being stable again.

I'm still going to have to do some long-term planning to upgrade and replace equipment (and probably one more Costco return), but should everything still be working tomorrow I can wait a few weeks.

The Airport Extreme base seems to have bit the dust, and the "spare" PC seems to be flakey as well. Sigh. A season of flakey HW again?

Well, I know I've got to replace an ethernet switch (it's over 5 years old) and one of the drives that's iffy. Those are relatively small expenses.

I'm planning to pick up a Mac Mini to replace the (2 1/2-year old) windows machine in the studio. I'm less than thrilled with the low-profile BTX case design; it's hard to get peripheral cards for it and it has heat problems. That will probably happen in March unless I'm forced to do it sooner.

The 5100C (the low-profile windows machine that's being flaky and has heat problems) will probably move out to the living room to replace the old P3/800 that we're using to play computer video to the TV.

I'm planning to pick up a Netgear ReadyNAS NV+ chassis and 4 1TB drives to be my storage and backup subsystem, but that's a bunch of money and probably won't happen until after BayCon (unless I'm forced to do it sooner).
