Recently up:
John Purcell's (aka profgeek) Askance #6 (PDF), with an article by yours truly about the whole Core Fandom kerfluffle, and an article by Claire Brialey on the same topic but with a slightly different perspective (I think some of the differences are rather Brit-fandom culture-specific, though).

johnnyeponymous's The Drink Tank #158, featuring another "anonymous" faaanfic submission, apparently taking both Chris and frankwu to task for being confused acolytes in thrall to Cheryl Morgan and taking Cheryl to task for, well, I'm not really sure what the author is taking Cheryl to task for. Perhaps for not giving Core Fandom the deference it desires and perpetuating the myth that gen-SF conventions and Worldcon are fun. Read it and make up your own mind.

There's an lj feed? Sweet!

I'll have to check out Askance.

As for the piece in DT, I'll admit a guiltily gleeful reaction when I started it (oooh! fight! fight!) but it didn't really grab me... following up Cheryl's hilarious submissions with something so similar in concept but not nearly as funny or biting in the execution seems pretty misguided.

Well, there was an RSS feed, and I took the time to check to see if there was an LJ syndication. Since there wasn't, I created one.

Pimp the feed!

I'm so glad someone else felt that way, too. I could ascribe my own reaction to it (flat) as down to bias toward things Cheryl writes, but if someone with no reason to have such bias felt the same way, I figure I'm not actually imagining it.

And that's with me knowing many of the in-jokes and references. Heck, I was at that Napa Valley Corflu, although not at the banquet in question. I'd just pubbed my first ish around that time, called Sensawunda, edited by Ben Adams with articles (and funding) from me.

Well isn't that ironic?

Very nicely said.

I see I'm going to have to get Minion ribbons done for Denver as well as the "Menace to Fandom" ones. But I think Deb has trademarked "minion" (being a leading member of the evil pseudo-capitalist WSFS, who trademark everything) so perhaps I need a different term. I'm thinking maybe "Winged Monkey".

Menace to Fandom
Let me know, if you want me to run interference on your ribbons. (Are you on my ribbons mailing list?)

Re: Menace to Fandom
Gigi has been handling ribbon orders for me. I shall check with her well in advance, and if necessary contact you. Feel free to put me on the mailing list anyway.

Here's the link to sign up. (I don't have your e-mail address handy.) Fill in the thing, it'll send you a confirmation message, reply to that and you're all set.

BTW, isn't that bit about failing to auction off a CD in a fanzine auction a bit familiar? I think I've read that somewhere before...

Who would want to sell a fanzine? Isn't that, like Capitalist?
