Half Dome was never a full dome.

Or at least the part that's missing is a lot smaller than you might guess. That the ridge looks like half of a giant dome is a trick of perspective. Geologists believe that the sheer face was essentially quarried away by glaciers.

Inland north? I'd say "upper midwest" or "snow belt"

Except the folks don't know that "soda" and "pop" are a major divider in the upper midwest. "Pop" was always a plains (Minnesota) thing to me.
