...on the ICG list.

I did my best, though, to frame the argument in dry and dispassionate review of the by-laws and how they apply to the situation.

The big diff is I can do so without employing personal attacks.

Too bad others don't have that courtesy...

Oh, so am I on moderated status? The email you sent this morning indicated I hadn't yet been put on moderated status, and looking back at the note I believe I avoided the sort of behavior I was warned about in more recent posts.

Happy Birthday!
I'm sorry to hear your birthday was not as happy as it could possibly have been. :( Maybe things will be better soon?

(As far as moderation woes, I can sympathize - Cosplay.com has had more than its fair share of flamers and wankers and idiots and screaming lunatics at times, and let's not even start with the Neo Nazis and their threats against the C.c staff... The pay (none) for thankless jobs ain't worth the destruction of what little remains of my sanity, so now and then I take a couple or 3-4 months off.)

you notice me not posting, right?

I just signed up for GBACG in Jan. I notice he's sidestepping all talk of refunds...

There is no provision in the by-laws or standing rules to rescind membership, nor to offer refunds.

As I mentioned in my response to RHill, I'm maintaining my GBACG membership because it's a strong organization that produces a nice newsletter, good monthly local events and an annual seminar day. It fulfills a need for me independent of ICG membership.

There is allowance in the by-laws to transfer affiliation, but because of the "strong chapters, weak corporation" model, there's no process or guarantee. It requires buy-in from a chapter to accept a membership transfer without changing membership terms (read "not collecting new local dues from the transferred member"). I hear over the grapevine that the Silicon Web is talking about "refugee membership" (no additional cost). They've got no fixed per-member overhead because of their adoption of exclusively electronic communications so it's less impact for them financially.

There is even the possibility of the BoD taking de-affiliated members and affiliating them with a different chapter without their consent (though I wouldn't expect this to happen except to people who couldn't make a decision when asked), or there would be if the corporation was able to exercise any pull over the chapters they would be reassigned to.

That would be even more volatile. Neither the by-laws nor the standing rules offer any provisions about rescinding membership (which would have to happen to refund dues), so the ICG has to find a way to deal with us until our current membership expires.

I will maintain my GBACG membership because of the services it provides. When the time comes, though, I will look elsewhere to maintain my ICG membership.

yeah, well, since he stated that GBACG can't run, it should follow that they can't vote, and therefore no longer members...

so, therefore deserving of refunds.
