Oy, gevalt...

Remember the bit about PCI-Express cards and standard "low profile" BTX case form-factor?

I hit Fry's. They didn't have any low-profile cards in stock. I hit Micro Center. They didn't have any low-profile cards in stock. I hit Central Computer. They didn't have any low-profile cards in stock. We got sick of running around.

After a bit of digging online I found a few vendors who packaged the nvidia GeForce 6200 (entry-level gaming display adapter) as a low-profile card. I even found a vendor who packaged the nvidia GeForce 6600 as a low-profile card. I also found a vendor who had the ATI X700 (one step up from the X600SE that's an option for the 5100C if you're buying build-to-order) as a low-profile card.

I also found a review. The ATI X700 whomps the 6200 in most evaluations, and sometimes even outperforms the 6600. It also won't cook a Dimension 5100C. The low-profile GeForce 6600 is specifically noted as running too hot for the ventilation in a 5100C, so that decision was easy.

Card is on order, and should be coming sometime soon.
