blatant media sluttery

After only a few days of having the new Comcast On Demand service, our cable box stopped saving our ordered programs and started glitching on inbound streams, so we put in a service call, and they said the box needed to be replaced.

Since I've got to stay home Wednesday morning for the appointment anyway, we updated the service request to have a Comcast (Motorola DCT6412) DVR installed.

'k, it's not a TiVo, but it's better than a VCR, and it's better than the standard digital cable box. Dolby Digital out, HD capable, all in all a good thing.

I'm shocked you don't have TiVo yet, being such a technoweenie and all.

We've been discussing (for years) dumping cable in favor of DirecTV with a TiVo-based DVR, but that's been trumped for a while by issues of local channels (not all available until last year) satellite mounting (i.e. where, and is there an unobstructed line of sight) and dealing with an installation visit.

The Comcast DVR is a quick service visit (and we need a service visit anyway), and there's no contract or equipment cost, just the subscription cost.

If we hate it, we'll switch to DirecTV and TiVo, but at the moment it's worth taking the chance on.

Guess with the new Comcast Toys, you're not even looking at the new Apple Toys?

Saw, cute, should do good for Apple's bottom line, but not personally interested.

When we finally get sick of the office machine it's getting replaced with an iMac 20"
