Horrific!

I blame sfbootdog. If it hadn't been for him I could have remained blissfully unaware.

So back in the 80's when Doctor Who went on a one-season hiatus, a bunch of folks involved in the show did a charity pop song. Well, the proceeds went to charity, but the purpose was to raise interest in the show and avoid its cancellation.

It's been described by one of the songwriters as "...an absolute balls-up fiasco."

For your consideration, an absolute balls-up fiasco:

Please note that I did attempt to quantify the badness of the video in advance, unlike sfbootdog.

Well excuuuuuuuuuuse me.

If I warn people, they don't watch, and I don't want to be the only one suffering.

By the way: Anyone, was that Howard Jones doing the "Exterminate" line?

I couldn't make it through the whole song.

Although I did see enough to note the video had the same production values as the show. ;)

How sad is it that not only do I remember the song, and owned the single, but I can look at the frame YouTube has defaulted to and know exactly what verse they're on?

I've managed to avoid exposure to that travesty for my entire life, despite having heard about it an awful lot - I'm not about to scar my forebrain, now.

'Tis amusing to watch how vociferously everyone disowns it, in hindsight. :)

Hey, it's not all bad. The lyrics rhyme, the singers are in tune and on tempo, and as baronlaw points out, it is true to the old Dr. Who production values, or lack thereof.

I'm just glad there's people here who hated it. I'm annoyed that I know so many people who are like "IT'S 80'S MUSIC, THEREFORE IT IS KEWL BY DEFAULT."

That being said, sadly, I can say it was not bad! The music makes my hair stand on end, but for a bunch of ostensibly non-professional singers, you could do a lot worse by turning on top 40 radio now.

The funniest part of this, is that when I tried to look at it yesterday, it was linked to the interview at K's workplace, with him talking about making things out of atoms and such...which is why my entry is such a non-sequitor...today it is now linked correctly

There was, apparently, some LJ-YouTube weirdness yesterday, with some people seeing mis-linked embedded media.

can you see how you calling the other a "balls-up" fiasco is funny, and yet mean?
