Stuff to write about...

You might have seen one of those big white liquor license signs up in Willow Glen for the last few weeks. Greg and Susan have sold Vin Santo. They sold to Umberto and Sharlene Pala, formerly of Il Fornaio.

Last week was their first week in the restaurant. Sharlene is getting up to speed on the wine list and the regular customers, and Umberto has already started reworking the menu. We had dinner on Thursday night, and it's just fabulous. One of the things they've added is a "Chef's Tasting Menu" (4 courses or 6 courses) and it's a great choice if you're not in a hurry.

oooh, tasting menu! that's always the best thing to get because the chef can really show what they can do!

my favorite place to get the tasting menu is Milennium in SF - the food is amazing, and they do more than one version, so if your date also gets the tasting menu, you'll both get different things and have twice as many amazing tastes. we like to take transit, so we can also get the wine pairings.

For Umberto's tasting menu he comes out, talks to you, and then makes something up. The appetizers and pasta courses are often the same, but the main course is usually different.

you think they might need a part time pastry chef?
