The next VW?

No, it's not really moto, regardless of what they say, but the VW GX3 looks interesting...

Pestilential pedantry
My, what hubris they have.

They aren't even the first MAJOR manufacturer to try a US three wheeler.

Mercedes said they'd sell one in the US by 2000.

Corbin's Sparrow failed.

My faves, The Carver and the Tracer have been available for... years. And are still not available in the US.

And, even though I personally know:
Five Bay Area Messerschmit owners,
Six people who drive TriKings on a regular basis,
One Peel trident owner ( ),
One Morgan Beetleback owner,
One Bond Bug owner, and
Five different people who wrote to GM begging them to build The Lean Machine...

I predict- if the VW is released, it will be pulled from sales within 18 months.

Oh yeah- I WANT</> one!

CMSP. Save up some pennies, take the basic class, get the license endorsement, and then you can decide if you really want to own a motorcycle afterwards.

It's easier to get the MC endorsement having taken the class; if you pass the skills test in the class that counts for your test, and you only have to pass the written portion at the DMV.

It's also worth taking the class if you haven't got your CA driver's license, because it covers a bunch of CA weirdness on the transfer written test for both MC and car licensing. The test here definitely is heavy on obscure little legal trivia.

Re: Pestilential pedantry
We'll see if it actually is delivered. The open cockpit would be a real miss in the rainy season in ways that even riding a bike in the rain isn't.

It's a nice piece of industrial design, though. Only trike that comes close is the Campagna T-Rex. All the other modern trikes are pretty ugly (tho the F300 design has a very areospace retro-chic going).

If it ever does ship, yeah, I want one, but I expect that licensing and registration zaniness will put them out of reach of anybody who doesn't already have a MC endorsement.

Speaking as a native Chicagoan......IT'S GOT NO ROOF!!!!!!!!

If it has no roof, it might as well be a motocycle which means it's really only usable for about 6 months out of the year. Nice Rich Boy Toy, but hardly a practical investment.

No roof is actually worse than a motorcycle; a motorcycle doesn't have an "inside" to collect rain or snow.

It's totally for the CA market. 46mpg city and diamond-lane legal for a solo driver. The lack of a top is just a bonus (as long as it's not the rainy season).

I want! I want! Roof or no! (~21 rain days a year)
